What is the difference between survival and bushcraft?

When it comes to wilderness skills, you'll often come across the terms survival and bushcraft. The two terms have a lot of overlap, but they are two different areas of wilderness training.

Survival:

This is about pure survival in the wilderness. Survival training focuses on how to proceed in unexpected emergency situations. Staying alive is the only goal and takes precedence over sustainable interaction with nature. Speed and improvisation are required. Survival skills include the ability to obtain shelter, food, water and fire, as well as basic medical knowledge.

Bushcraft:

This term describes the learning of craft skills that enable life in nature on a long-term basis or even make it more beautiful. This includes traditional knowledge and the sustainable use of natural resources. This includes botany, woodworking and much more.

Security:

Who ensures safety during survival training? The safety of the participants always comes first. You will be accompanied by experienced guides at all survival trainings and camps. The guides know the respective area and have many years of experience. They can recognize and assess potential dangers in advance. To keep the safety risk during survival training as low as possible, you should always follow your guide's instructions. In the event of an injury, a storm or similar, you can request external help. In bad weather, tours can be canceled in order not to endanger the safety of the participants. In these cases, you will be offered an alternative date.
